Katri and Gordon West booked a Malta &
Tunisa tour package:
First I would like to thank you for a
very well organized trip to Malta and Tunisia.
It was so reassuring having somebody meet you at the airport regardless of
your time of arrival. I had been a bit worried with the change in arrival
time and airport in Tunisia but there he was waiting for us.
Hotel El Mouradi Hammamet was a beautiful hotel with good food. There was
another party from Canada at the same time. It turns out that the French
speaking Tunisia is a popular destination for Canadians from Quebec
especially Montréal. It is off-season in Tunisia but still beats the
Canadian winter so the Quebecois come and
spend months there.
Early next morning Salar, our guide and Aramzi, our driver were there with
a 4WD. I'm not sure of the spelling of their names as we never saw them
written. First we stopped at El Jem to see the well preserved Coliseum.
I hadn't realized how near to the fights and animals you would be in the
front row! I'm sure the spectators got
splattered with blood. (Gordon attended a hockey game in Toronto a
couple of days later sitting in the front seats and realized nothing had
changed in 2000 years, except there were no FURRY animals).
Salar took us then - "on his own expense" - to see the new local museum
that had mainly mosaics from the Roman villas around there. I have never
seen anything like it. The mosaic pieces were mostly very small so the
pictures were like paintings with life like expressions and shading. The
animals almost leapt out at you. Those Romans must have had lots of money
- and got hold of a superb artist to do them.
Saw a couple of the mosaics later at the Bardo Museum in Tunis.
Stopped at the Berber village Matmata and had lunch there then visited
Dar Omar's Berber home dug into the hillside which he is expanding to make
it to a B&B place. That will be really something different.
In the afternoon we arrived in Douz after seeing hundreds of thousands of
olive trees on the way and went straight to the camel depot for a ride in
the desert with a young boy walking our camels - no galloping into the
sunset. Back at home I could brag at my aerobics class about having to
scrape off the camel dung from the bottoms of my running shoes. Stayed at
Hotel Saharien Paradise with a lovely garden with birds singing,
Next morning drove north over the salt lake along a causeway stopping at
a thermal pumping station where people could bathe, admired "artificial"
oases with date palms and arrived at Metlaoui where we boarded a
"Sultan's" train for a most spectacular ride up a canyon with several
photo-op stops on the way. Stopped at a mining town at the other end and
then back. Took a couple of hours. 25 dinars each,
well worth it.
Back to Tozeur to Hotel Hafsi. A fine hotel with a pool where (European,
Canadian) children were swimming. In the afternoon a ride to Onc Djel
through the desert up and down the dunes. It was fun once you got used to
it. Our driver was very good and careful and I felt my life was in good
hands. Arrived at the Star Wars village and
at home tested our children whether they would recognize it. They
passed.
Camels at pasture sand bathing in the track's soft sand, sheep, goats, an
Oman Emir's tent city - showing his offspring how their ancestors used to
live?
At Nefsa looked at the town from the Corbeille and then took a horse cart
ride down to the oasis. Turned out that camels are OK but horses are out
as far as my allergies go. I had medications at the hotel (usually I
carry them with me all the time but not when I would need them!) and by
dinner time was fine. Visited Dar Cheraiet in the
evening , a private museum which is meant, I think, for children, not
for avid label readers like me (personal opinion). But it was nice with
sound and light effects.
Next morning to Chebiba oasis where we had a leisurely walk up the stream
to a pool with green frogs and to the spot where the water comes out of
the rock. Saw the remnants of a Roman fort where they collected taxes
from the caravans that came to drink at this oasis.
Beautiful.
Spectacular formations of young sedimentary rocks that we don't usually
see. Gordon took many photos and is going to catch some of his colleagues
to explain the geology.
Then a side trip to Mides, little visited gorge. How can a river that is
so small now ever have gouged a gorge like that? Stopped also at the
Grand Cascade with a nice
swimming hole but once there had been a flash flood that drowned
6 people. And now, just a trickle.
Stopped for lunch at Yugurtha Palace. A real palace that seems to be in
the middle of nowhere. Luxurious and good food. Hit Tunis at rush hour
but Hotel El Hana an oasis. Said good by to Salar.
He gave us good advice on how to entertain ourselves the next day before
Aramzi would pick us up for the airport.
Visited the famous Bardo Museum, well worth it, and then decided to go
native and took the Metro to Carthage with a change at Tunis Marine and
guessed fairly well where to get off. And we found the Porte Punique just
as it was described. Any paintings and drawings one sees make it look
really big as if it could hold modern war
ships. In reality the boats were relatively small and could not
have carried any elephants across the Mediterranean. Gordon got
many pictures of the reconstructed models of the Punic and the later Roman
ports. There was a local guide who explained the place in very
clear French to which by that time we had become quite used to.
In the evening Aramzi picked us up and drove us to see Sidi Bou Said, a
pretty, well kept tourist spot worth the visit, and then deposited us at
the airport.
All in all they took good care of us, gauged our interests and changed the
program somewhat to suite our wishes. The hotels were well situated and
clean and people friendly and helpful everywhere.
Malta, of course, was wonderful. Next time we know to reserve more time
for it and relax. At the airport I bought Lyn Hamilton's book "The
Maltese Goddess" and now must return to see the Mnajdra Temple.
Thank you again from us both

Cheryl booked a variety of tours and
activities:
It's time to return to "wonderful"
Britian. But just wanted to thank you for the tours I went on. Sicily
was fantastic as were the guide and the driver. The guide really gave a
personal touch to the tour.
The gozo tour - What a gentlemen the young man is that took me around. He
showed me all the good sites and really made me "like the Queen". He took
me to many villages which was really amazing and is very informative about
all the places of interest. I really enjoyed my day in Gozo
The Blue Grotto and temple tour was amazing. Pat the tour guide is really
funny and very informative. i really enjoyed the day.
But I will say thank you for making my stay most enjoyable. I walked from
Mdina to the Dingly cliffs then on to Blue Grotto area. Beautiful
countryside you people have, in fact I have met so many amazing people
who are locals.
Take Care

you have provided. Our guests were really very very happy with all. Well
done and keep it up.
Thanks.

Paula booked a variety of tours &
leisure activities:
Thank you very much for arranging
the excursions for us in Malta, we had a truely wonderful holiday. To
have our excursions arranged prior to our visit was brilliant and we
knew that we could just get on with our holiday and enjoy it. We would
like to say a special thank you to Shirley who drove our jeep on the
malta jeep safari, she was a wealth of information and the day would not
have been the same without her.
We hope (circumstances permitting) to
return next year and once the holiday is booked I will be on line to see
what other excursions you have to offer.
Only one comment regarding the Sicily
excursion. We had breakfast on the catermaran as advised but then we
were too full when we stopped in Sicily for the lovely Sicilian
breakfast that was offered. Still I did manage to enjoy the most
fantastic cappacino!

Mr
Keith Brown and his son Mathew booked a private tour and Sicily:
How does one say thank you for such
professionalism, dedication, good humour and exceptional service. Thank
you for making Matthew’s time so special in Malta. Your country has
always been special to me since Jane and I first visited 12 years ago,
and now I have taken it as my personal mission to increase cultural
tourism to Malta.
I was intrigued when your Minister for Tourism, Mr. Dimech addressed the
conference and spoke of the increasing value of history and culture to
your Tourism GDP.
If I may be so bold as to offer a suggestion for your website, I suggest
you “package” some personal guided tours under the rubric of culture and
heritage and subdivide into temples, historical sites, cultural sites,
etc. While it is what Joan is already doing superbly, for marketing
purposes you may appeal to a different group that did not know this
wealth of prehistory and history abounds on Malta.
Joan, Matthew took great delight in telling Jane I was not
“appropriately” dressed for the tour and about your dress shoes. He has
already presented his 30 page journal to the class, given each student a
piece of lava from the top of Mt. Etna and will be doing a photo
powerpoint presentation next week. He did the powerpoint for me at the
conference so he was proud of being involved.
We went immediately back into soccer and the boys will have four games
this weekend; back to the North American rat race of always on the run.
Thank you again and I will do my best to send any interested parties
your way!

Darren & Lucy booked a private Gozo
Jeep Tour with Helicopter flights:
Hope it is still sunny in Malta!!!
Thanks very much for organising our Gozo Helicopter Adventure!! We had a
really great time.
Everything went smoothly from the outset, with the personal touch of a
hotel pick-up and assistance with check-in at the airport. The helicopter
trip was amazing. We were the only passengers and so had great views for
the whole flight.
Your rep was very helpful on Gozo, ensuring that Mario, our jeep driver
knew what we wanted to see and which order was best to see it in. We had
time for a quick swim at Ramla Bay, a view of the Bay from the Calypso
Cave and the Ggantija Temple before lunch. Mario took us to see the salt
flats along a very scenic coastline before returning to the Chez Amand for
a superb (and large) meal (which took about an hour and a half). There
was a little confusion as Mario had assumed we'd booked, but there was a
free table with a view of the bay, so all was fine - future visitors may
be advised to book
to secure a table as it was fairly popular for a small restaraunt.
After lunch we were whisked off to the Azure Window and back to the
Citadel for a quick look round - maybe a little too rushed as we'd asked
if 1/2 hr would be long enough. Mario was very keen to get us back to the
ferry terminal in plenty of time, and even after getting him to drive up
the hill overlooking the port and out to Comino and Gozo, we still had
over half an hour to sit around before queuing for the ferry for another
1/2 hour. We
were a little disappointed at having the spare time, but having had a
brisk tour of the island, we were very happy with how the day had gone.
Our taxi driver was very chatty on our way back to the hotel, as he'd been
to England. The convenience of the taxi was definately a bonus and well
worth it.
We'd mentioned to you about the climbing session with Ritchie from Malta
Rock Climbing and I'm pleased to say we had a great time with him the
following morning. He's about 40yrs old, with over 20yrs of experience
and local knowledge of the crags. He's suitably qualified and a very safe
operator. He took us to the Victoria Lines where we tried both
traditional climbs (placing various protection in the rock as you go) and
ready-prepared
sport routes which were ideally suited to my ability and experience. I'd
recommend him to anyone, from absolute beginner to raving rock-nut.
Thanks again for preparing a fantastic day (definately ideal for a
birthday
present!!)
Regards

Andrew
booked a dolphin swim & interact and we arranged for him to propose to
his girlfriend during the dolphin swim. SWEET!:
I
thought I would take a few minutes to let you know how things went with
my swimming with the dolphins and proposition to my now, fiance.
The day went
really well and I would like to extend my thanks to Natasha and all at
the marine park. I wasn't sure how they were going to do it, but that
managed the surprise with perfection.
Also, please
extend my thanks to the two dolphins, Sol and Ona. They were wonderful
and the whole experience was a very emotional one for my fiance. It was
one in a million.
Thank you for all your help.

Andy Garner
booked a hotel and tour package:
Hi Chris
This is just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip
to Malta. Everything worked perfectly, including return travel and
excursions. We will certainly be returning, possibly the Corinthia San
Gorg with the kids staying in the adjacent Cortinthia Marina as an
alternative to two rooms at the Phoenicia – assuming you deal with these
hotels. Of course you are more interested in extra business and I will
certainly take every opportunity to sing the praises of your company to
my colleagues at the medical school and hospitals in Manchester! Hope
to see you next summer if not before.

Beatriz Miniaci and her group of 6
booked a multi day private itinerary:
Hi Joan. My husband Albert is Dominick's brother. My sister-in-law Meike
gave me your card with much deserved recommendation (she assured us).
Please let us know if you are available. We are coming to Malta in
Aug.24th-27th. Would you be available to take us + 2 other couples in a
6 passenger van ALL OVER, meaning Valletta & it's surroundings & GOZO as
well. We have dinner reservations for the 24th at Xara Palace in Mdina &
that's all the plans we've made. Historical sites are very important to
the group but also beautiful scenery. We only like GREAT food & wine &
the men like to smoke cigars. Since we're off on the Sea Cloud for one
week, we won't need to lay around the beach/pool.
LOVE, PEACE, HAPPINESS
