Day One
Pick-up from hotel and transfer to port for catamaran departure to Pozzallo in
southern Sicily.
On
arrival at Pozzallo - a typical Sicilian fishing village, we are greeted by our
local guides and proceed to board the coach.
We will be
joining the tour for the morning only which
travels along the the eastern side of Sicily, passing Noto and Catania en route
before arriving to Taormina. On arrival at Taormina you disembark the
coach and make your your way to your hotel. A shuttle bus service is available
to take you to central Taormina or you can take a taxi directly to your hotel,
distances are short and you may actually pefer to make your own way to the
hotel.
After hotel
check-in the rest of the day is at your leisure. Explore central Taormina, visit
the Greek Theatre (€6.00 per
person) and
quaint streets which are lined with small boutiques and curiosity shops. You can
also take a cable ride down to the resort of Giardini Naxos which lies at the
foot of Taormina. Giardini Naxos has a pretty seafront and, opportunities to
have a swim or stroll the around Yachting marina.
During the
evening take a walk into central Taormina and enjoy dinner at a local
restaurant. Sicilian cuisine is renowned to be one of the in the
Mediteraean region. After dinner find the ideal spot and enjoy the stunning
views overlooking the bay at Giardinin Naxos, open views as far as Calabria and
inland views of Mount Etna....the scenery is simply breathtaking.
Day Two
After breakfast, check-out of your hotel. Your driver will pick-up at
approx. 1000/1030hrs for a full day of sightseeing.
We first visit Mount Etna, the highest
active volcano in Europe. Across fascinating landscape, we will reach the height
of 2000 metres, from where we will enjoy a superb panorama of the Ionic Sea.
During
your visit to Mount Etna you may wish to take a 4x4 drive to the summit, up to
2900m or a cable car ride up to 2500. These can be booked on the spot and the
cost is between EUR20.00 to EUR25.00 per person.
We continue
with our tour, en route passing beautiful scenery with great photo
opportunities. Our next scheduled stop is Syracusa.
Syracusa, was once one of the most
powerful Greek colonies outside of Greece. Upon arrival, we will first visit the
old part of the city known as Orthygia Island. After a short visit to the old
part you can enjoy lunch is a local taverna/restaurant (additional cost). After
lunch our tour continues with a visit to the archaeological park (€6.00 per
person) which includes the marvellous Greek theatre, the Ear of Dionisios (type
of large cave), a Roman amphitheatre and Latomie (stone-quarries).
Our tour comes to an end in
Catania and port for our departure back to Malta.
On arrival at
Valletta port you will be met by our driver for a transfer to your hotel.
